Niche markets - do the basic research first
By ShowMeTheMoney | January 22, 2007
I am constantly amazed at the amount of research data you can pick up on the internet for basically just the expenditure of time. I especially like the stuff the US government produces. Now unlike the UK where we seem to have to pay for everything even if taxpayers money was used to produce the information, in the US most of this stuff is essentially in the public domain. If you are researching any sort of niche market then its worth spending some time seeing if a US government agency has some freebie information you can make use of. As my favourite internet marketer Ed Dale likes to say, this isnt like work in the real world, your not bricklaying or anything. Your sat on your backside browsing the net, so no excuses on not doing some basic research! I have been interested in the US recreational fishing and hunting market for a few weeks. The fishing market in particular is huge (its still the most popular outdoor hobby in the US) and they spend vast amounts on equipment and other related products and services. So obviously an interesting market to consider when looking to develop products of your own or in finding affiliate products to promote. Head on over to the snappily titled (!) 2001 survey of fishing, hunting and wildlife associated related recreation for a detailed market breakdown.
