The end of the lone ranger?

By ShowMeTheMoney | March 6, 2007

Interesting short video over on Ed Dales blog. Basically Ed is saying that the days of the one man band being able to push a niche website up into the higher earning range ($10,000+ a month) may be coming to an end. The amount of work you need to do these days on all the various tasks to optimise and promote your site to this sort of level may be getting beyond one person.  Ed’s always an interesting read and I think his blog is well worth checking out over the next few days as he goes into more details.

PLR and Reseller rights - the whats, whys and “what the f’s”

By ShowMeTheMoney | March 5, 2007

If you’ve done much research into Internet marketing and selling information products in general then you will have come across the terms PLR (private label rights) and reseller rights. Essentially this is material (eBooks, software, audio, video…) that comes with some (limited or unlimited) rights so that you can rebrand it as your own and/or sell it for 100% of the profit.

After being an affiliate of other peoples products for awhile its the goal of many newbie marketers to sell their own digital product. But putting together your own product can be difficult and time consuming. This makes acquiring PLR and reseller rights to products others have produced look very attractive. Over the last couple of years the amount of PLR and reseller rights products has exploded along with the growth of internet marketing as a viable business. Its sheer popularity is also one the problems. Take a look at eBay and on any day of the week you will see thousands of info products being sold for literally pennies. The same products are being sold right across the web on thousands of sites. The competition is pretty much insane and means most sellers never make any kind of reasonable profit. In fact the products being sold often end up completely devalued as a price war breaks out between vendors selling the same products. Price ends up being the only differentiator and it makes the products worthless.

The trick to making money with PLR and reseller rights is to source those products that have had only limited or controlled distribution. This obviously limits the competition and means the products have some perceived worth. Sourcing PLR and reseller rights like this is not always easy. This problem has given PLR and reseller rights something of a bad reputation. However done the right way there is still money to be made….

In the next couple of posts I am going to give you some of my own experiences in sourcing and marketing PLR and Reseller rights products and why I think they are still a great revenue stream for any internet marketer….

Power Down…again….

By ShowMeTheMoney | March 3, 2007

I was without power (again!) from about 2.30pm yesterday so not a lot got done. Its the third time in as many months the power has gone done. I was working away on my laptop when there was a massive bang from outside the house. I ran out because I  thought there had been a car crash or something directly outside but its turns out the electricity cable under the main road had shorted and exploded! When I say its blackened the kerb and lifted it up out of the road surface you get the kind of idea of how loud a noise it made! Anyway had no power until about 8.30pm Friday night. I wouldnt mind so much if I was miles out in the countryside but I live in a relatively urban area, you’d think I could get a stable power supply :-( !!

Buying And Selling Websites II

By ShowMeTheMoney | February 28, 2007

Quick update with news on the website buying and selling. Well so far its been interesting. I have a couple of potential intersted parties in the ebook sites. To be honest I am trying to feel my way to setting a realistic price. Its not easy, a sites only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. In that respect I think it my be worth me trawling around all the other sites which have closely related products and pitching it. On the current basis I would actually probably just keep hold of the site and do some renovation on it myself but its a time thing. There is never enough time to do all the stuff I want!

I also listed some pure traffic related sites over at sitepoint. Now this is really to test what the bottom end of the market is willing to pay. I figure this is the place for the worst prices I will be offered! Nothing against the website marketplace at sitepoint but the majority of buyers and sellers are selling stuff as a sideline rather than a business and boy does it show!

Places to Buy and Sell Websites

By ShowMeTheMoney | February 22, 2007

Today I have done more research on Buying and Selling fully developed websites. I have made a brief list of the sites out on the web where you can buy sites with content (rather than just domains). Now using these sites you will not get the best prices, you are more likely to get a better price via approaching a buyer / seller yourself or via a website broker. They do however give a good indication of the state of the market at the moment. I can tell you people are ridiculously undervaluing their sites at present (if you can spot the gems in amongst the crap!). I cant see that situation lasting for much longer once proper website brokers become more widespread. Its basically like the wild west at the moment.

Places to buy and sell sites:-

The Sitepoint Market Place
Deal a Site
Votan Web
Website Broker
Website Auction Hub
Buy Sell Website
Sun Belt Business (Brokers)
Sedo (Mostly domain selling but some developed sites as well)

Info product websites…..and why you’d want to buy them

By ShowMeTheMoney | February 20, 2007

Just eating a late lunch at the moment, good it is too :-) Spent most of the morning setting up a simple wordpress blog to sell a project that I really want to get out from under my feet.  I have been having great fun following Ed Dales Dominche course which is all about buying and selling websites (and lots of other stuff besides!). Not buying / selling domains I must add, but full blown websites.

Anyway I thought it was time I sorted myself out and got busy actually selling off one of my e-book info product sites which I havent actually touched for about 2 years! Really these type of sites are just the thing for somebody who wants to “flip” them. This is a bit like you do with a house renovation, you buy something slightly run down, give it a renovation and sell it on! There is so much great potential out there on the web with this method, thats if you know what sort of website to look for and how to do a decent renovation!

If you want to take a look at the the wordpress blog I set up earlier, take a look at Virtual Real Estate, you can see the same video as below and some more details of the actual sites I am selling, (yes this is shameless self promotion) :-) I will let you know how I get on with this as I think buying and selling sites has great potential, here is the video from the site:-

More Adwords Changes, Yikes!

By ShowMeTheMoney | February 19, 2007

If you take a look over on the inside Adwords blog there is news of further changes to the quality scoreing system on Adwords that is going to hapen later this week. The last Google “slap” was pretty uncomfortable for a lot of affiliates and I cant see this one being any easier. I think we are heading towards a situation of one landing page per keyword! To be honest I dont do a lot of PPC with Google these days but what I do have is set up like this anyway. Its the only way to get any sort of decent price for clicks. Have things got harder? Probably, but it does mean if you are up to date with whats going on you have an advantage over all those advertisers who just bury their heads in the sand…

Go ahead and double bill me!

By ShowMeTheMoney | February 15, 2007

Just spent about three hours trying to sort out three hosting accounts where I have been double billed. Basically I changed the registered paypal accounts on their billing system to a different email address. Not a good move. Many of the smaller hosting companies use the same hosting control package which includes a billing module. If you change the paypal details it doesnt cancel any subscriptions on the old paypal account. So hey, double billed for three annual hosting invoices over the last two days. Lets just say these guys are not too hot on customer service either! I still havent untangled it all yet……

On a different note I have just updated the blog to Wordpress 2.1. If you have a Wordpress based blog and you havent already updated, nows the time. Its relatively painless. I can definatley see some speed improvements here on affiliatemonkeys. Loads of other improvements as well, I think the code base has had a complete overhaul. And at last we have a built in spellchecker which has always been one of my major gripes about WP.

Different Views on DJK

By ShowMeTheMoney | February 11, 2007

In the aftermath of the Day Job Killer (DJK) launch it was refreshing to get some other views on what people thought of the product and the launch. I think I have pointed out Erics Tips blog before as being somewhere I stop by on a regular basis. He has an interesting post about DJK thats worth a read.

I have a few non clickbank related experiments underway this next week. I have quite a lot of time and money invested in this project so you can bet I will be glued to my laptop for a few days around midweek when I expect things to really kick in (or not as the case may be :-) ). More details soon…
